![]() ![]() Except for games and a very few musical experiments, you simply can’t find much worth watching or listening to. The real reason for virtualizers is simple: Most available binaural sound examples are amateur attempts, or very short demos. So we can create a 2D or 3D spatially located sound image in our heads if we hear a modified 2 channel stereo, in which the microphones are located in a real or virtual human head, or if "virtualizer" software approximates similar effects. ![]() The theory is that we only have two ears, but that we take advantage of the complex ways our bodies interact with sound to locate sound sources in 2D or 3D space. For headphone users, it makes sense to convert many-speakered surround sound (which is recorded using many differently placed directional microphones, and played back using many directional speakers) to (virtual) binaural sound.
